Valentine`s or Anti-Valentine`s Day, as you have it
There are millions of people tired of this quite commercial holiday. Hundred thousands people say: love is an every day happiness, it`s not like you bring a chocolate once per year on a certain date and can be happy ever after. Even in the countries of the Middle East, where Islamic traditions are so strong, some youngsters start to celebrate this originally Christian holiday.
But we have a choice. Hate Valentine`s day? You can have an Anti-Valentine`s Day card. American Greetings, based in Brooklyn, Ohio, has more than 2,500 Valentine`s Day cards to choose from, including Anti-Valentine`s Day cards, as WKYC-TV Cleveland report.
One of the cards, which shows a couple kissing reads, "They had shared a moment." On the inside the caption is, "A lifetime commitment was completely out of the question. Happy Anti-Valentine`s Day (for the woman who knows what she doesn`t want)."
"The anti-valentine`s really range from celebrating the single life, to celebrating the freedom of being without dating drama, to poking fun at the holiday itself," said Megan Ferington, communication supervisor for American Greetings. "There`s also a way to say, `It`s Valentine`s Day and we`re in this together.` There`s a camaraderie that some of the anti-valentines really communicate."
The new cards follow trends of anti-valentine parties complete with black dress codes and broken, chocolate hearts. Recently, the U.S. Census Bureau also found that single women outnumber married women.
"85 percent of all valentines [cards] are purchased by women," said Ferington. "And that`s mostly because women send to multiple people. That`s also where there`s an opportunity for anti-valentines."
